Suggestion: Blindfolds!

So this came up in a conversation when I ran into Karyn, but some blindfolds could be really interesting! I mean there's already gags, so it's a natural extension. ;)

Sounds like a neat idea to me. Although I still like the idea of the isolation helmet with Force Mouselook and a HUD to simulate looking thru a screen, because the faceplate's blank. And then the owner can control the screen, as well as the wearer's speech.

The HUD blindfold has many annoying side effects. If we did one, I think it would be much more likely to be one that used environmental settings to blind you (making the world completely dark) - which would of course still let you see any HUDs and such you have. It is also slightly less secure.

How do you feel about doing things this way?

If it makes things easier, I've nothing against it. :) Seeing HUDs isn't necessarily a bad thing, I've had need to use my AO to shuffle things around when bound with different things, so that can be useful

The question is... what would make a blindfold more interesting than the norm? Is there any NPiRL (Not Possible in Real Life) effect you can add to it to enhance it? Any way to compensate that SL does not have tactile and olfactory senses?

I was pondering e.g. a blindfold where either the transparency or the color of the blind effect depended on the distance to the nearest other person... to give a sense of presence even when blinded.

Need some help here, since blindfolds isn't really one of my things... :) :)

I know there's a gorean slave hood somewhere that adds a low-powered radar showing you where your master is, and if there's something solid in the way that you've just bumped into.

Dunno how its scripts work, though.

Thanks! The tech behind those two functions sound rather easy to figure out... *grins evilly*

Could you add some fog that only exists in your client? That way, you could see a few meters, but no more.

No idea if fog even exists in SL except as particles.

I hear "particles," but somehow it registers as "lag." Especially in my RLV client, which runs much slower than the one I like to use. Then again, I'm on a two year-old mini mac, which has its limitations even on the best of days.

May I suggest a blindfold effect for my favourite item, the power-off button? Just the simple "world is black" would be absolutely sufficient...
( I do run around with the button openly accessible for everyone and "no self press" and full isolation settings... this would just make it perfect!)
