I think I've got this one figured out, thanks to hints you guys have given. The guy's a sorceror planning to take power through or from Lisa--the guy's familiar (in the cage) is trying to warn him about the intruder coming to Lisa's rescue, but he's so... intent upon the... uh... delights Lisa has to offer that he misses the warning.
